Watermelon Truck Memories with Dad – A Handmade Card

I’ve decided to challenge myself in September 2020 to do at least one creative thing every day. I’m kicking off September 1, 2020 with a card to send to my dad based on a favorite memory I have with him.

One of my favorite memories as a kid with my dad was riding with him through the Columbia River Gorge up and down the Oregon and Washington sides delivering Hermiston Watermelons to independently owned markets. We’d get up so very early in the morning and drive out to the field where people would throw melons in the truck to load it up, then we’d get on the highway and at each stop I had to get out, climb on top of the pile and pitch those melons down to my dad or whoever was there to help from the market.

I’ve had the Special Delivery Shaker Card Kit from Queen & Company for a while now, but never made anything with it. When they released the Special Deliver Summer Celebrations Add-on Kit, I knew I had to have it and I finally did something with it!

I used quite a few tools and materials to make this card. I’ll try to list them all here.

Most of the materials used for this card

Queen & Company – Special Delivery Shaker Kit (All dies for the truck and the sentiment stamp).

Queen & Company – Special Delivery Summer Celebrations Kit (Whole watermelon, Watermelon slice die, Summer Celebration Pattern Paper Pad and Summer Celebration Solids Paper Pad).

Queen & Company – Border Dies – for the three layers of hills, Misc. Foundation Dies for the sentiment banner, road, and the black die cut frame.

In addition to the paper from the kits listed above, I used:

Accent Opaque Digital 16pt. Cover Smooth, 120lb. for the card base and sentiment.

Recollections Black Cardstock Paper 110 lb. for the frame, road and tires.

Chipboard leftover from packaging was used for the truck rails.

Wink of Stella – Clear Gold to give the watermelon slice and hub caps a little sparkle.

Arteza Everblend Alcohol Markers – A546 Apple Green, A555 Forest Green, A942 Olive Green, used to add stripes and shading to the watermelon die cuts.
